Metro 2039 officially announced, full reveal this Thursday at the Xbox First Look Event

Metro 2039 First Look

After months of whispers, 4A Games has made it official: the next Metro game is real, and it has a name.

Metro 2039 has been confirmed as the fourth mainline entry in the series, with a full reveal locked in for this Thursday, 16 April 2026 at 6pm BST, as part of an Xbox First Look event. The studio released no gameplay, no screenshots, and no plot details, just a title and a date.

The Xbox Wire post accompanying the announcement did at least frame the occasion, noting that “Xbox has always been a home for the franchise,” with 4A Games honouring that relationship by bringing the reveal exclusively to Microsoft’s platform.

The Series So Far

For those keeping track, Metro 2039 follows Metro 2033 (2010), Metro: Last Light (2013), and Metro Exodus (2019), all based on Dmitry Glukhovsky’s acclaimed novel series. It’s been seven years since Exodus took the franchise above ground in its most ambitious outing yet, so expectations will be high.

Separately, rumours of a Sony State of Play on the same day are still unconfirmed, though the Metro reveal adds weight to the idea that 16 April could be a genuinely packed day for gaming news. An Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced reveal has also been floated.

For now, 4A Games is saying nothing more. Thursday can’t come soon enough.
