PlayStation has announced The Playerbase, a new programme giving fans the chance to be scanned into their favourite first-party games. Gran Turismo 7 is first up.
Table of Contents
According to a PlayStation Blog post, the idea is to bring fans closer to the games they love, literally. If you’re selected, you’ll appear in GT7 as an in-game character portrait for a limited time. PlayStation has also said it’s planning to bring more studios into the playerbase further down the line.
How do you get into The Playerbase?
Apply through the official link, and Sony will go through submissions before shortlisting people for video interviews. You’ll need to show genuine passion for PlayStation and Gran Turismo in particular, think hours logged and trophies collected, not just saying you’re a big fan.

The Prize
Make the final cut, and PlayStation will fly you out to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles, covering travel and accommodation, to be properly scanned into GT7. You’ll also get to design your own logo and a custom in-game vehicle. Not bad.

The part worth noting about
Here’s where it gets a bit murky. Fans taking part won’t have the likeness protections that SAG-AFTRA members secured through years of negotiation. Once you’re scanned, what happens to your face beyond that “limited-time” NPC slot isn’t clearly spelled out anywhere in the FAQ.
If you’re just in it for the experience, maybe that doesn’t bother you. But it’s probably worth knowing before you sign anything.
