Mortal Shell 2 finally gets a release date, and it’s sooner than you’d think

Mortal Shell 2 finally has a date, and Playstack’s played this one smart. While half the industry piles into September and October to dodge Grand Theft Auto 6‘s November takeover, Mortal Shell 2 slips out on August 20, 2026, well clear of the scrum.

The reveal came with a new cinematic trailer, confirming the soulslike sequel for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam. No surprises on platforms, but the timing’s the real story here. With Control Resonant and Marvel’s Wolverine both circling that same September/October window, getting ahead of the queue isn’t a small thing. Being first in line matters when everyone’s fighting for the same headlines.

Alongside the date, Playstack’s also confirmed two premium versions. The Devout Edition gets you in 72 hours early, so you’re already three days deep before anyone else has touched a controller. The Revered Edition goes the collector’s route instead: a steelbook, art prints, and an artbook built around the game’s dark fantasy world. No word yet on pricing for either, so keep an eye out there.

August 20 isn’t far off now. Mortal Shell 2 picked its window well, and I reckon that early access clock is going to matter more than people expect.
