Mattel Xbox Original Building Set Brings Classic Gaming Back to Life

Mattel is giving Xbox fans a great way to celebrate 25 years of the original console with a new collector-focused building set.

The Mattel Xbox Original building set recreates the first Xbox at full 1:1 scale and comes with 3,509 pieces. It also includes the iconic Duke controller, making it a large display piece for gamers who remember the early days of Xbox.

The set is now available for presale from selected retailers around the world, including Amazon, Best Buy and Mattel Creations. It has a suggested retail price of $329.99 and is designed for builders aged 17 and above.

A full size recreation of the original Xbox

The Mattel Xbox Original building set is packed with details inspired by the original Microsoft console. Once completed, the model can be displayed as a full size Xbox along with its classic controller.

Mattel has also added several hidden details inside the console. The interior features scenes inspired by three popular Xbox-era games: Halo: Combat Evolved, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and Psychonauts.

The three game sections are modular, so builders can remove them from the console and display each one separately. The set also includes 12 NanoWorld figures based on the featured games.

The Duke controller activates hidden features

The classic Duke controller is more than just a display accessory. Mattel has made it part of the interactive experience.

By pressing buttons on the controller, owners can activate hidden scenes inside the model. The set uses lighting effects and game soundtracks to bring these scenes to life.

There is also a hidden button combination that activates a special lighting sequence. This gives collectors another secret to find after completing the build.

Made for Xbox collectors

The Mattel Xbox Original building set is part of the Mattel Brick Shop range, which launched in 2025. The building brand has already released sets based on well-known entertainment, gaming and automotive properties.
