Brook StarRay Wireless Controller Offers Fast and Flexible PS5 Gaming

Brook StarRay Wireless Controller
Brook StarRay is a new wireless PS5 controller with Hall Effect sticks, fast buttons, adjustable triggers, 1000Hz polling, and app support.

Brook Gaming has launched the new Brook StarRay Wireless Controller, giving PS5 players another option if they prefer the Xbox-style asymmetrical stick layout. The controller combines native PS5 support with Hall Effect sticks, mechanical buttons, adjustable triggers, and a range of customization features designed for different types of games.

Unlike many third-party controllers that require workarounds on PS5, the Brook StarRay is designed to work directly with the console. It can also connect to PCs through Steam, as well as iOS and Android devices. Players can use it wirelessly over Bluetooth or connect it with a USB-C cable.

A PS5 controller with an Xbox-style layout

One of the biggest differences with the StarRay is its stick arrangement. Instead of the traditional symmetrical layout found on the standard PS5 controller, Brook uses an asymmetrical design similar to Xbox controllers.

This layout can be more comfortable for players who prefer having the left analog stick positioned higher. It also gives the StarRay a familiar feel for gamers who regularly switch between Xbox and PlayStation.

The controller has native PS5 support, and its HOME button can also be used to turn on the console. This makes it more convenient to use as a replacement for the standard controller.

Hall Effect sticks and fast mechanical buttons

Brook has equipped the StarRay with Hall Effect analog sticks. These sticks use magnetic sensing technology instead of traditional contact-based components, which can help reduce the chance of stick drift over time.

The controller also uses mechanical buttons. Brook claims they can provide up to 30% faster input response compared with conventional buttons. That could be useful in games where quick presses matter, especially competitive shooters and action games.

Another interesting feature is the adjustable trigger system. Players can switch between two trigger modes depending on the game they are playing.

The long-stroke mode provides a 15 mm trigger travel, which can be useful for racing games where controlled acceleration and braking are important. The quick-trigger mode reduces the travel to just 0.3 mm, making it better suited to FPS and action games where fast button presses are more important.

For PC gaming, the StarRay can also reach a polling rate of up to 1000 Hz when connected through USB-C. A higher polling rate can allow the controller to send input updates more frequently, which can be useful for competitive gaming.

Plenty of customization options

The StarRay is not limited to its hardware features. Brook also provides the StarRay App, allowing users to adjust several parts of the controller’s behavior.

Players can remap buttons, adjust joystick sensitivity and dead zones, configure Turbo and Macro functions, and install firmware updates. This gives users more control over how the controller behaves across different games.

The controller also includes two additional buttons on the top and two buttons on the rear. These extra controls can be assigned to different functions, potentially reducing the need to move your thumbs away from the analog sticks during gameplay.

Other features include dual vibration motors, RGB lighting, and anti-slip grips. Together, these features are aimed at making the StarRay more comfortable during longer gaming sessions while also giving it a more customizable look and feel.

Compatibility and availability

The Brook StarRay Wireless Controller supports PS5, PC through Steam, iOS, and Android. It can be connected wirelessly using Bluetooth or used as a wired controller through USB-C.

Brook has already made the StarRay available through its Amazon Store and official online shop. The controller has an MSRP of US$74.99.

For gamers looking for a PS5 controller with an asymmetrical stick layout, Hall Effect sticks, adjustable triggers, extra buttons, and software customization, the StarRay offers a strong set of features for its price.

Its combination of native PS5 support and PC-focused features also makes it a flexible option for players who use more than one gaming platform.
