For years, Faye has been one of the most important characters in the God of War story, even though players have never truly experienced her journey firsthand. That is about to change.
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Santa Monica Studio have officially announced God of War Laufey for PlayStation 5. The new game shifts the focus away from Kratos and Atreus and places Faye at the heart of the adventure, giving fans a chance to explore her story in a way never seen before.
The game begins after Faye’s death. Instead of finding peace, she awakens in a strange place known as the Everywhen. This mysterious realm exists beyond the worlds players have explored in previous God of War games. It is filled with powerful magic, forgotten secrets, and gods from different mythologies.

Soon after arriving, Faye discovers that the future she worked so hard to protect may be falling apart. Determined to safeguard Kratos and Atreus, she sets out on a dangerous journey through the afterlife in search of answers and a way home.
Santa Monica Studio describes the Everywhen as a place where gods and creatures from many different worlds meet. Some are willing to help, while others see Faye as a threat. During her adventure, she will face powerful figures including Sekhmet and Begtse, both of whom appear ready for battle.

While the setting may be new, the developers say the game still carries the spirit of God of War. Players can expect hard-hitting combat, a strong story, and plenty of exploration. At the same time, the team has created a combat system designed specifically around Faye’s abilities.

Unlike Kratos, Faye relies heavily on speed and movement. She can quickly switch between attacks on the ground and in the air, allowing battles to feel faster and more fluid. According to the developers, her fighting style blends ideas from both the classic Greek games and the more recent Norse adventures.

One of the most interesting features of God of War Laufey is Faye’s ability to manipulate souls. As the Golden Hand of the Jotnar, she can separate an enemy’s soul from its body and use that power against other opponents. This opens the door to creative combat combinations and gives players new ways to approach battles.

Faye will also gain access to a powerful sword during her journey. The weapon is built around speed, precision, and constant pressure, making it a perfect match for her agile fighting style.
She will not travel alone. Deborah Ann Woll returns to voice Faye, while Jack Quaid joins the cast as Phranque, a friendly cosmic cube who becomes one of her companions. Perlina Lau voices Rue, a magical guardian connected to the legendary sword Faye uses throughout the game.
Beyond its combat and characters, God of War Laufey also aims to answer one of the biggest questions left behind by God of War Ragnarok: what happens to gods after they die? The Everywhen serves as the centre of that mystery, and uncovering its secrets will play a major role in Faye’s adventure.
God of War Laufey release date
Sony has not announced a release date yet, but God of War Laufey is already shaping up to be one of the most interesting entries in the franchise. By bringing Faye to the forefront and exploring a completely new side of the God of War universe, the game offers a fresh direction while staying connected to the series’ roots.
