Xbox fan gets GTA 6 for free through Microsoft Rewards

Grand Theft Auto 6 - GTA 6

Paying $100 for the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 doesn’t sit well with everyone, so a handful of Xbox players are taking a different route entirely: earning the game through Microsoft Rewards instead.

Rockstar opened GTA 6 pre-orders, with the standard edition priced at $80 and the Ultimate Edition at $100, both well above the usual asking price. GTA 5 launched at $60, which makes the jump sting for a lot of fans. For players unwilling to pay outright, Microsoft’s points scheme has become an unlikely workaround.

Years of Bing searches finally paying off

According to Pure Xbox, one player has already managed it, pre-ordering the Ultimate Edition five months ahead of launch using reward points built up over three years. That’s not a quick win; it’s the result of daily searches, dashboard quizzes, and Game Pass quests stacked for ages.

Another Xbox player is currently chasing the same goal, working towards a $100 gift card that requires 100,000 Microsoft Reward points. Posting on Reddit, they admitted the grind is real, but the savings make it worthwhile if it pays off.

Microsoft Rewards offers a few routes to points: Bing searches, Xbox and Microsoft Store purchases, daily dashboard tasks, and quests tied to Game Pass titles. None of them are fast on their own.

Stacked together over months, though, they add up to something substantial enough to cover a $100 release. It’s a grind few will bother finishing, but for the patient, GTA 6 might end up costing nothing at all.
