CD Projekt Red officially announces The Witcher 3’s third expansion, Songs of the Past

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past DLC

It wasn’t supposed to happen today, but a leak forced CD Projekt Red‘s hand, and now we have confirmation of something fans have been speculating about for months.

Songs of the Past, a brand new expansion for The Witcher 3, has been officially announced with a 2027 release window. It’s coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5, and is being co-developed alongside Fools Theory. More details are promised for late Summer.

One last ride with Geralt

CD Projekt Red has kept things deliberately vague for now, teasing only that the Witcher 3 expansion will “take you to the Path with Geralt of Rivia once more.” Given that The Witcher 4 is shifting focus to Ciri as its lead, Songs of the Past could be Geralt’s last major outing for quite some time.

Earlier leaks had suggested the Witcher 3 expansion may bridge the gap between the two games and take players to Zerrikania, a desert region with exotic wildlife and distinct cultures. There’s also speculation it could depict how Ciri officially becomes a Witcher, though none of this has been confirmed.

PC system requirements are changing too

Alongside the Witcher 3 DLC announcement, CD Projekt Red confirmed that revised PC system requirements are on the way. The headline change is that HDD support is being dropped entirely in favour of SSDs. Here’s what you’ll need at minimum:

GPUNVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 / AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT 8GB

Players who can’t meet the new requirements can revert to an older version of the game, though future updates won’t be supported.
