If you’re waiting for PlayStation to address the whole “we’re killing physical discs” thing, keep waiting. Because on Tuesday, after nearly a week of radio silence, the company finally broke its social media hiatus, and it chose to talk about a fight stick.
Yes, really. PlayStation’s first post since July 1 wasn’t a statement, an apology, or even a half-hearted acknowledgement. It was a promo for the FlexStrike wireless fight stick, complete with a pre-order link and a line about switching out “lever gates with ease.” Objectively, terrible timing.

You can probably guess how that landed. The replies were less “ooh, nice stick” and more a pile-on about the actual news everyone’s been fuming over. One user pointed out that it’s their usual strategy of sitting quietly through backlash for two decades might not cut it this time, and honestly, they’ve got a point. Another simply called it “crazy work” for choosing this exact post to end a five-day silence with.
The bigger picture hasn’t gone anywhere either. The “Don’t Kill the Disc” Change.org petition has now pulled in over 206,402 signatures, and even PlayStation’s own first-party studios have reportedly taken swipes at the decision. Sony still hasn’t said a word about any of it.

So the fight stick can switch lever gates with ease. Whether PlayStation can switch out of ignoring its own community remains to be seen if it even plans to try.
