Twenty-five years is a long time to wait for smooth frame rates, but here we are. Ubisoft’s marked Ghost Recon’s anniversary by finally giving Wildlands a proper current-gen upgrade, and it’s thrown in a free story mission for good measure.

A darker Bolivia, and a cult to take down
The new mission, Last Rites, comes from Ubisoft Bordeaux and drops the Ghosts into a grimmer corner of Bolivia ruled by Los Penitentes, a cult that’s big on faith, sacrifice, and brutal punishment. Your job is to hunt down their leader, La Llorona, through swamps and forests where you genuinely can’t see much coming. Atmospheric, at least.
60 FPS arrives, better late than never
The real headline for a lot of players is the technical stuff. Wildlands now runs at 60 FPS on current consoles, alongside sharper 4K visuals, better lighting, shadows, and draw distance. Ubisoft’s also loosened up the customisation options considerably, letting you fiddle with enemy behaviour, damage, friendly fire, weather, and HUD elements to build whichever version of Wildlands you actually want to play. The Predator event is back too, if you fancy getting hunted by something scarier than a cartel.
Creative Director Olivier Leonardi framed it as a thank you to the community, saying Last Rites is meant to honour what’s kept the franchise going for 25 years.
Free games and a bundle to look forward to
Wildlands and Breakpoint are free to play from 6 to 10 August, and PC players can grab Ghost Recon: Future Soldier through Ubisoft Connect until 13 August. A Breakpoint 25th Anniversary Bundle lands next month too, with freebies like the M4A1 Tactical Brown and the Wolf Enhanced Helmet.
Ubisoft’s also opened up its Ghost Recon Insider Program for anyone keen to help shape whatever’s next, which matters given the rumours swirling about a potential reboot or delay. Whatever’s coming, Ubisoft clearly wants the fans on side first.
