Call of Duty: Warzone is getting its first-ever beta

COD Warzone

Six years. That’s how long Call of Duty: Warzone has been out without ever having a proper beta. Now, ahead of Modern Warfare 4, it looks like that’s about to change.

The clue came from a new Resurgence map spotted in an MW4 “From The Ward” video, first flagged by Detonated on X. Fans immediately started guessing what it meant. Then the Call of Duty Studio Community Teams account jumped in with two cheeky replies: “Find out in….beta?” and “See what we are cooking in beta.” Not exactly subtle.

This feels like more than just Warzone map testing

Warzone doesn’t need a beta to prove a map works. Activision has been shipping new maps into the game for years without one. So this feels less like quality control and more like a marketing push, a way to get people talking about Warzone again after a rough patch.

That patch is real. 2025 brought the Verdansk comeback and gave the battle royale a genuine boost, going up against Fortnite and Apex Legends. But that buzz has faded again, and a beta tied to MW4 is a smart way to pull players back in before launch.

Reckon this works? A beta this late in game is unusual enough that people will show up just to see what’s different.
