CD Projekt Red dropped multiplayer from Cyberpunk 2077, but the sequel might get it after all.
CD Projekt Red is hiring a Lead Quest Programmer for Project Orion, and the listing asks for someone who understands multiplayer network architecture and client-server syncing for game state and quests. It’s only a “nice to have”, so it isn’t a hard requirement for the job.

Cyberpunk Co-Op looks like the likeliest route
Still, you don’t ask for quest syncing unless players might be doing quests together. I’d guess co-op, since it’s the easiest way to fit multiplayer into an open world like Night City. A GTA Online-style mode seems like a much bigger jump.
This isn’t the first hint either. A job ad last year pointed the same way, so I’m starting to think the studio is at least testing the idea. Nothing is confirmed, but I’d love to see it happen.
