Six days. That’s how long the Save Mass Effect petition needed to pass 251,000 signatures, which is faster than the Don’t Kill The Disc petition managed. That one took just over a week to reach 250,000 after launching on July 1.
It’s not a fair fight, and I won’t pretend it is. One petition is about the future of physical games, the other is about a single franchise. Still, the pace is hard to ignore, especially as the disc petition had gaming social media fired up when it launched.

Why Mass Effect fans are signing
EA shut down BioWare to cut costs, and that also ended work on the next game. It was reportedly called Mass Effect: Universe. Fans started mourning almost immediately, and a user named Joe Smith opened a petition on Change.org asking EA not to leave the IP dead for good.
The Don’t Kill The Disc petition was a reaction to Sony’s plan to stop making new PlayStation discs from January 2028. It was one of the biggest gaming petitions around, but it lost steam. It’s now sitting at 387,000 signatures after just under four months, and most of the early rush is long gone.
That’s the part I’m watching. Mass Effect fans have the head start, but a fast start is the easy bit. Staying loud for four months is the real test.
