Fancy yourself a Marathon veteran with a nicely stocked loadout? Great, you won’t be needing any of that today.
The Free Kit Frenzy Dire Marsh Sponsored mode is here, running from 15 April through to 29 April. Game director Ziegler announced it over on X, with the caveat that the window could shift if the team spots anything worth acting on during the run.
White Tier only – no exceptions
The whole point of Free Kit Frenzy is that everyone walks in equal. You’re queuing with a white-tier sponsored kit and nothing else. No pre-loaded advantage, no carefully curated setup, just you, Dire Marsh, and whatever you can scrape together once you’re in. The upgrade grind starts after you land, not before.

There’s a method to the madness
It’s not just a fun gimmick. The developers are actively using this mode to study how Marathon’s early gear ecosystem behaves when everyone’s starting from scratch. They want to see how the zero-to-hero loop holds up under low fixed-gear conditions, and they’ll be keeping an eye on any technical wrinkles that pop up along the way.
Getting in
Dire Marsh is the only zone in play here. You can queue as a premade duo with crew fills switched off, a premade trio, or let matchmaking fill your trio out.

Timing-wise, it drops just a day after Marathon’s big mid-season balance patch, so the game’s already in a bit of flux before you’ve even queued up.
