It’s not the news Quantic Dream fans were hoping for. The studio has confirmed that Spellcaster Chronicles is no longer in development, bringing an early end to a game that was still in early access.
A tough call in a tough market
The announcement came via Quantic Dream’s official X account, with the studio citing “the challenging market environment” and the game’s inability to build a sustainable audience as the reasons behind the decision. An internal reorganisation will follow, though the company has pledged to handle it fairly and prioritise reassigning staff wherever possible.

For those still playing, Spellcaster Chronicles will remain accessible until 19th June 2026, after which the servers go offline. Anyone who spent money during early access is entitled to a full refund on request, which is at least a decent gesture given the circumstances.
What this means for Star Wars: Eclipse
Here’s where things get interesting. Back in April, Quantic Dream was banking on Spellcaster Chronicles to generate revenue that would help fund Star Wars: Eclipse’s development. The studio insists Eclipse remains unaffected, but the same report also noted that NetEase could “reevaluate its commitment” to the studio if Spellcaster underperformed commercially.

Whether that conversation is already happening behind closed doors is anyone’s guess. Worth keeping an eye on.
