After nearly a decade, Destiny 2 is heading into its final chapter, and Bungie is sending it off properly.
The studio has confirmed that active development on Destiny 2 is coming to an end, with the game’s last-ever content update scheduled for 9th June. The game itself will stay online and remain playable, but this marks the end of the live-service era that’s defined it since launch in 2017.

A last hurrah for Destiny 2
The June update isn’t a quiet farewell. Bungie is packing it with content that was originally earmarked for future releases, essentially everything they had left in the tank. That includes Pantheon 2.0, a full Portal overhaul, new Crucible game modes, ability updates across all classes, and refreshed weapons and armour for every raid and dungeon.
Sparrow Racing League is also making a permanent return, and there’s an updated rewards pass tied to the Monument of Triumph rounding things off.
Seasonal events, however, are being retired for good.

In a lengthy blog post, Bungie described the update as a collection of “love letters” to players across every activity type, a genuine attempt to leave the game in the best possible state.
The studio signed off with a heartfelt thank you to the community, acknowledging the uncertainty ahead while expressing excitement about whatever comes next.
It’s a bittersweet moment for millions of Guardians, but at least the lights won’t be going out entirely.
