Well, that didn’t take long. Ryan Hurst is out as Kratos in Amazon’s God of War show, just months after that infamous set photo made him the internet’s punching bag.
TMZ reports Hurst tore his bicep during a stunt and ended up in the hospital. Deadline says the injury could’ve kept him off set for up to six months, pushing filming into 2027. Amazon clearly decided that was too long to wait, so they’re recasting instead.

Hurst had already put on 40 lbs of muscle for the role and shot scenes across more than four episodes. All of that now needs reshooting with a new Kratos, which is going to sting the budget as much as the schedule.
I’ll admit, part of me isn’t shocked this show keeps hitting snags. Hurst got hammered online after that February set photo of God of War show leaked, and a lot of fans just couldn’t see him as the character Christopher Judge redefined in the 2018 game and Ragnarök. Whether a new actor changes that perception is anyone’s guess.

Sony’s been trying to catch the lightning HBO bottled with The Last of Us, but its other adaptations keep stalling. This project alone has been kicking around since 2022, got rebooted in 2024, and now loses its lead actor before season one even airs. At this rate, the God of War show might spend longer in development than Kratos has spent killing gods.
