Tomb Raider: Catalyst keeps Survivor-Era Lara Croft

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis 1
Crystal Dynamics confirms Tomb Raider: Catalyst and Legacy of Atlantis both feature the same Survivor-era Lara Croft going forward.

Lara Croft isn’t getting a reboot within a reboot. Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that Tomb Raider: Catalyst will stick with the Survivor-era Lara, the same version we’ve followed since the 2013 reboot, and yes, that includes the upcoming Legacy of Atlantis too.

Same Lara, two different Tomb Raider games

Speaking at Gamescom, game director Raul Siqueira laid it out plainly: Legacy of Atlantis and Catalyst are being made together, but they’re not the same story. Legacy of Atlantis is staying faithful to the original 1996 game, while Catalyst carries Lara’s journey forward, and both use the Survivor-era version fans already know from the 2013 trilogy.

I reckon this is the sensible call. Rebooting Lara’s characterisation again right as Crystal Dynamics is juggling two projects at once would’ve been a headache nobody needed. Keeping her consistent means less confusion for players jumping between games, even if Catalyst’s delay to 2028 means we’ll be waiting a good while to see it play out.

Continuity over chaos. I’ll take it.
