Square Enix eyes new games after Final Fantasy 7 Revelation

Final Fantasy VII Revelation
Producer Yoshinori Kitase says Square Enix will most likely back new games after Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, more remakes aren’t off the table.

Square Enix looks ready to move on from Final Fantasy 7 once the remake trilogy ends.

Trilogy producer Yoshinori Kitase said in a new interview that the company is “more likely to invest in new titles and new games” after Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which launches in April 2027. That’s good news for anyone who has been waiting on the mainline series, with FF16 arriving in 2023 and FF15 back in 2016.

Final Fantasy Remakes aren’t off the table

Kitase didn’t shut the door on remakes, though. He said Square Enix is still willing to revisit old projects, particularly when the original developers feel strongly about them, as he and his colleagues did with Final Fantasy 7. The aim, he explained, is to let new players experience the appeal of the original while giving longtime fans something fresh.

Final Fantasy VII Revelations

It’s a vague answer, and it doesn’t point clearly towards remakes, new entries or new IP. I’d love another remake, with FF6, 8, 9 or 10 all high on my list, but I doubt Square Enix will jump into one straight after Revelation.

With FF Resonance showing there’s still demand for classic turn-based RPGs this year, I’m keen to see which way the series goes next.
