Keychron has officially launched its new V6 Ultra Hybrid keyboard on Kickstarter, and the response has been much stronger than expected. The new keyboard combines traditional mechanical switches with modern magnetic switches in one board.

The Kickstarter campaign had a goal of $30,000, but the V6 Ultra Hybrid passed that number very quickly. Within just one day, it had collected more than $166,000 from 926 backers.

One keyboard, two switch types

The main feature of the Keychron V6 Ultra Hybrid is its support for both mechanical and magnetic switches. Users can install standard MX-style 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switches, or use compatible magnetic switches.

Keychron uses TMR sensing technology to make this possible. The keyboard can detect which type of switch is installed and automatically select the correct mode. Users do not need to change the setting manually.

This makes the V6 Ultra Hybrid more flexible than a normal mechanical keyboard, especially for people who want both typing and gaming features from the same device.

Built for fast gaming

With magnetic switches installed, the keyboard supports several gaming features, including Rapid Trigger, SOCD, DKS and controller emulation.

It also offers an adjustable actuation point from 0.1 mm to 3.5 mm, with adjustments available in 0.1 mm steps. The keyboard supports an 8 kHz polling rate, which should also help with fast input during gaming.

For wireless use, the keyboard comes with a 4,000 mAh battery and uses ZMK firmware. Keychron has not yet shared an official battery life figure.

The keyboard can be customized through Keychron Launcher, giving users control over its settings and key functions.

Affordable design with a premium touch

The V6 Ultra Hybrid uses a gasket-mounted design and comes with an ABS case. Keychron has also added several layers of sound-damping foam to improve the typing feel and sound.

The keyboard includes double-shot PBT keycaps in Keychron’s OSA profile. Buyers can choose between Ultra-Fast Lime linear magnetic switches and Banana sharp tactile magnetic switches, with a silent Lime option also available.

Keychron V6 Ultra Hybrid keyboard pricing

The Keychron V6 Ultra Hybrid initially launched on Kickstarter at $149 for early backers. The standard version is now priced at $152, while the version with Ultra-Fast Lime Silent Red magnetic switches costs $157.

A $160 bundle is also available with standard Lime or Lime Banana magnetic switches and a coiled aviator cable.

Keychron has not announced the final retail price yet. However, the company is expected to keep the regular price relatively close to the current Kickstarter pricing.

With its ability to work with both mechanical and magnetic switches, the V6 Ultra Hybrid could be an interesting option for users who want a single keyboard for everyday typing and competitive gaming.
