Empulse is out now, just not yet for PlayStation players

Movement shooter fans finally have something new to obsess over, even if PlayStation owners will have to wait a little longer to join in. Empulse, the Titanfall-inspired shooter from Splitgate developer 1047 Games, launched into early access today on PC via Steam and on Xbox Series X/S. The PS5 version isn’t ready yet.

1047 says the holdup comes down to platform certification, which is corporate shorthand for nobody involved actually controlling the timeline.

EMPULSE Early Access launch trailer

A new direction, same old studio

The studio teased Empulse earlier this year, tucked onto the end of a Splitgate: Arena Reloaded update after Splitgate 2’s launch and relaunch both stumbled. Empulse later got a proper reveal and made a real impression during Steam Next Fest’s June 2026 edition, landing among the top 50 most-played demos and pulling in roughly 250,000 wishlists, according to a press release.

Whether that wishlist total converts into actual buyers remains an open question right now. Early concurrent player counts on Steam sit only marginally above where Splitgate currently stands, and well below where Splitgate launched. Marathon, for comparison, still has thousands more players online.

Worth the jump?

Empulse is only a few hours old, so there’s time yet for those numbers to climb. At $15 during its launch discount, it’s a cheap way to scratch an itch EA has repeatedly created and then ignored by cancelling Titanfall projects at Respawn. Anyone who loved the originals should know within minutes whether the movement here holds up.
