Early 2027 already looks like a release calendar nobody wants to touch, and Jason Schreier reckons God of War Laufey is about to wade into it anyway.
Speaking in a new video about the ripple effects of GTA 6‘s launch, the Bloomberg journalist argued that Santa Monica Studio’s tentpole sequel needs space to breathe. Releasing it near Rockstar’s juggernaut, he said, would bury the media attention it deserves.
God of War Laufey stole the show at June’s PlayStation State of Play, with footage showing Kratos’s wife’s journey into the afterlife of the gods and a combat system blending the Greek saga’s fluidity with the Norse saga’s weight.
Sony still hasn’t confirmed a release window, though. Reports in recent weeks pointed to a first half of 2027 launch, but Schreier is now narrowing that further.
A Packed February and March
Schreier expects God of War Laufey to be announced for February or March fairly soon, joining a lineup that’s already packed.
Fable, Persona 4 Revival, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Metro 2039 have all confirmed February dates, while Lords of the Fallen 2 and Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember are both targeting early 2027 too.
Schreier warned, particularly for games chasing the casual buyer who only picks up two titles a year. Some of those releases will inevitably slip, pushing the window even tighter.

For now, God of War Laufey’s date remains officially unconfirmed, but if Schreier’s read holds up, early 2027 could rival the brutal autumn rush already lined up for 2026.
