Razer buys StreamElements, now owns your favourite stream tools

Razer just bought one of the biggest names in streaming software, and no, your overlays aren’t about to turn into RGB monstrosities. Probably.

The gaming hardware giant has picked up the assets of StreamElements from Live Momentum Ltd, the company that used to own it. Odds are you’ve used StreamElements without even clocking the name, it’s the software behind a huge chunk of custom overlays, alerts, tip pages, chatbots, and sponsorship deals on the big streaming platforms.

What actually changes for creators

Nothing, at least for now. Razer’s keeping the platform running as-is, same team, same features, same tipping setup, so nobody’s income takes a hit overnight. The deal covers the IP, the platform data, the business records. Live Momentum Ltd is still on the hook for clearing any payments it owed creators before the sale went through.

The bigger picture is Razer plugging a gap it’s had for a while. It already runs a Content Creator Program with perks and bounties, and CEO Min-Liang Tan’s framing this as an obvious next step, pairing the hardware Razer already sells with the software creators actually stream on. Keyboards, mice, capture cards, and now the tool running the show on screen, all under one company.

That’s what makes this worth watching, not the acquisition itself but what it sets up. Razer’s talking about deeper ties down the line with stuff like Chroma RGB and Razer Gold, though there’s nothing locked in yet.

For now, StreamElements carries on business as usual. Just don’t be shocked if your alerts start glowing green somewhere down the line.
