Dave Bautista could replace Ryan Hurst as Kratos in God of War

Dave Bautista as Kratos

Prime Video’s God of War show needed a new Kratos, and it sounds like it’s found one.

Deadline reports that Dave Bautista is in talks to take over the role from Ryan Hurst, who tore his bicep during a stunt earlier this year. Amazon decided recasting was faster than waiting for him to heal.

Honestly? Good pick. Bautista’s got the build and the bald head down already, and if his Drax performance taught us anything, he knows how to play a stoic warrior type without making it boring.

Who else is joining the God of War cast

The recast isn’t just Kratos. A report from over the weekend said Atreus and Thrud (Thor’s daughter) are also being recast as the show tries to get back on track after Hurst’s injury.

If Bautista signs on, he’ll be stepping into a cast that already includes Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, among others.

Nothing’s confirmed yet since negotiations are still ongoing, but I’m calling this a win already. The show’s aiming for a 2027 release, so there’s time to get this right.
