DLSS 5 is coming to RTX 40-Series GPUs eventually

NVIDIA just lifted the review embargo on DLSS 5, and if you’re running an RTX 40-series card, here’s the good news: you’re not being left behind. Eventually.

Right now, DLSS 5 only works on RTX 50-series GPUs. NVIDIA has said that its priority is tuning performance there first, with model updates coming later this autumn. Only after that work is done will NVIDIA turn its attention to bringing official DLSS 5 support to the RTX 40 series.

Why the wait makes sense

DLSS 5 is heavy. We’re talking a 50-60% performance hit, which is exactly why only one game, NBA 2K27, supports it so far. That’s not a coincidence. NBA 2K27 isn’t a demanding title, so it’s the safest testing ground while NVIDIA works out the kinks.

Yes, mods already let it run on RTX 40-series cards. But given the performance cost and the fact that barely any games use it yet, you’re not missing a lot by waiting for the real thing.

So consider this the early access phase of DLSS 5. It’ll get faster and more capable before NVIDIA rolls it out further. RTX 4090 owners might grumble about being second in line, but better a working version late than a broken one now.
