Windrose hits 1 Million Sales and 220,000 concurrent players just days after launch

Kraken Express’s pirate survival game Windrose is having a proper moment on Steam, and the numbers are hard to ignore.

Released on 14th April, the open-world PvE crafting title has already sold over 1 million copies and peaked at more than 220,000 concurrent players. At the time of writing, that puts Windrose fourth on Steam’s most-played list, sitting just behind Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and PUBG: Battlegrounds. For a brand-new release to be rubbing shoulders with those juggernauts is no small thing.

Windrose

Players are clearly loving it

The game has racked up over 7,000 reviews with a Very Positive rating, which suggests the playerbase isn’t just showing up, they’re sticking around and vouching for it.

Kraken Express took to X to acknowledge both milestones, and their message to the community was genuinely warm. They thanked players for their support and, notably, for their patience while the team works through fixes. It’s the kind of developer communication that tends to keep a community onside during the rougher early-access patches.

Windrose lore

Windrose is a pirate-themed survival and crafting experience set in an open world, focused entirely on PvE. Think seafaring exploration with a sense of humour, the studio’s own message referenced boars launching players into trees, so expect some chaos alongside the swashbuckling.

With momentum like this, Windrose looks like one to watch.
