If you’ve been holding your breath for Kingdom Hearts 4 news, you might want to exhale. Disney has confirmed a “Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts” panel for D23: The Ultimate Fan Event this August, and while that sounds promising on paper, there’s a catch.
A 25th anniversary panel, not a Kingdom Hearts 4 showcase
The event runs from August 14 to 16 in Anaheim, California, with the Kingdom Hearts segment slotted for August 15 from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Gematsu spotted the listing, which promises “a journey through light and darkness” to mark the franchise’s 25th anniversary, plus insight from creative minds and character voices on how Disney, Pixar, and Square Enix came together to make the series work. Sounds lovely. Still no mention of KH4 anywhere in the description, though.
That’s the bit that’ll sting for anyone who’s been waiting seven years since the last mainline entry. An hour-long celebration of the past quarter century is a nice gesture, but it’s not exactly what fans have been asking for whilst refreshing X every time Square Enix so much as clears its throat.

Still room for a surprise
There’s still a sliver of hope here. A 25th anniversary is precisely the kind of milestone publishers love to spring a surprise on, and last month’s Switch 2 trailer confirmed KH4 is coming to Nintendo’s new console at launch, so the game is clearly further along than “vague roadmap” territory. Whether Square Enix uses this stage to show it off or saves that for its own event is anyone’s guess.

Either way, I’ll be watching that 4:30 pm slot closely. Just maybe don’t set alarms for a KH4 reveal specifically.
