If you were already picturing a new Ori game at Gamescom this year, bad news: it’s not happening. At least not yet.
The rumour started on ResetEra, where a poster claimed one of Saber Interactive’s teams was quietly working on a new entry in the series, with a possible reveal at an Xbox Developer Direct later this year. Naturally, that was enough to send fans into a spiral.
Moon Studios boss Thomas Mahler wasn’t having any of it. He said he’s heard nothing about Microsoft reviving the franchise, and didn’t hold back on why he doubts it would even work. He pointed to Microsoft pouring huge amounts of money into 343 Industries to run Halo, without ever getting the old magic back, as proof that throwing an IP at the wrong studio just gets you “slop.”

Moon Studios wants Ori back, not a spin-off
Here’s the actual news buried in the denial: Mahler says Moon Studios has been discussing buying the Ori IP back for itself. His logic is simple, he doesn’t think any other studio could do much with it, so it makes sense to bring it home.
He didn’t stop at one tweet either. In a follow-up, he called the Ori 3 rumours outright nonsense, though he did throw in one interesting detail: composer Gareth Coker reckons it’s about time for a new one.
So no, Ori 3 isn’t sneaking into Gamescom. But if Moon Studios gets its way, the series might end up exactly where it started.
