Phantom Blade Zero pre-orders open next week, new trailer too

Phantom Blade Zero

Phantom Blade Zero is done. Finished. Ready to ship. And S-Game is celebrating that by finally letting you throw money at it.

Pre-orders go live on August 11 at 7 PM PT across PlayStation Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, and they’re bringing a new 11-minute trailer along for the ride. Expect more story, more characters, more of that brutal combat we’ve already seen glimpses of, and, according to S-Game, “something unexpected.” No, they won’t say what that is. Yes, that’s annoying.

Phantom Blade Zero – Pre-Order Teaser

What’s actually new here

If you’ve been sleeping on Phantom Blade Zero, the pitch is simple: martial arts meets machinery, wrapped in a fantasy-horror shell S-Game calls “kungfupunk.” It’s a strange combination on paper, but the footage so far backs it up, with swordplay that looks properly nasty next to some genuinely unsettling mechanical horror.

The bit I’m actually curious about is the honour system. Your choices apparently ripple through the main story, not just side content, so acting with honour (or not) could shift how the plot plays out entirely. That’s a bigger swing than most action games bother with.

We already got a solid look at the combat during June’s PlayStation State of Play, so the new trailer’s job is filling in the gaps, story, characters, and whatever mystery reveal they’re sitting on. With development locked and the game currently pencilled in for October 29, there’s a real chance that “something unexpected” is a release date shuffle rather than a new feature. Purely a guess on my part, but developers don’t usually tease surprises this close to launch for no reason.

Either way, we’ll know soon enough. Mark August 11 in your calendar.
