The wait is nearly over. The Coalition confirmed at the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 that Gears of War: E-Day is launching on October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X/S and PC, and pre-orders went live immediately after the showcase wrapped.
For anyone holding out hope for a PS5 version, that debate appears to have been settled: E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive, so PlayStation players are out of luck for now.
Gears of War: E-Day gameplay demo reveal
The gameplay trailer was pretty striking. Marcus cuts through a city that’s been completely torn apart, derailed trains, crumbling streets, monsters pouring out of the ground. He’s scrapping with makeshift weapons and no armour, which gives the whole thing a raw, desperate feel that’s a bit different from the polished soldier we’re used to.
The standout moment was a massive claw-like creature bursting from the earth. It’s the kind of reveal that suggests E-Day isn’t short on spectacle.

The game will also be available Day One on Game Pass, which is welcome news.
A Prequel 14 Years in the Making
E-Day is set 14 years before the original Gears of War, bringing back Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago as the Locust Horde first emerges to wage war on humanity. It’s a story fans have wanted told for a long time, and October isn’t far off.
