Steam Controller demand has been so overwhelming that some buyers won’t see their order window open until 2027. Valve has now updated its reservation system to give people an actual sense of when that’s likely to happen.
Three windows, one big gap
The reservation system went live on May 8, set up after demand for the controller outstripped what Valve could produce and supply, prompting priority sign-ups designed partly to fight scalping. The first wave of orders shipped within a week, but everyone after that was left without a timeline.
That’s changed now. Based on current demand and production capacity, Valve is sorting reservations into three estimated windows: September 2026, December 2026, or at some point in 2027. Anyone who’s already reserved a Steam Controller can check which window applies to them by logging into their Steam account and heading to the Steam Controller page.

A long wait for some buyers
The 72-hour order window once a slot opens remains in place, so anyone assigned a date will still need to act quickly when their turn arrives. Valve has been candid about the scale of the backlog too, noting that current reservations “indicate a 2027 date for shipping” for a sizeable share of hopeful buyers.

It’s a reminder of just how niche-turned-mainstream the new controller has become, and how far Valve’s production has fallen behind the appetite for it. Whether the windows hold up as production ramps up is anyone’s guess, but for now, the only certainty is patience, with some buyers facing a wait well over a year.
