Everyone assumed GTA 6 was a PlayStation show and Xbox was just along for the ride. Turns out Xbox is doing just fine.
With under two months to go until the November 19 release, reports had suggested pre-orders were heavily skewed toward PS5, which, sure, isn’t shocking given the size of Sony’s install base. But Xbox CSO Matthew Ball wasn’t having the narrative that his platform was getting left behind.
Xbox says the GTA 6 numbers add up
Posting on X, Ball said Xbox is “very happy” with how GTA 6 pre-orders are going, calling it record-breaking for the platform and predicting even more records will fall through the autumn. He also made a point of noting that Xbox’s share of pre-orders lines up with its share of the console market overall, which is basically him saying: we’re not behind, we’re just smaller.

That’s a fair distinction. A bigger pie for PlayStation doesn’t mean Xbox got a bad slice, it just means the pie itself is a different size. With two months of pre-orders still to come and a launch-week sales rush guaranteed after that, this is far from the final tally anyway.
Rockstar’s about to have a very good November no matter whose console people are buying it on.
