Xbox Project Helix is getting a new look at the Spring 2026 game dev update

Project Helix

If you’ve been itching for more details on Xbox’s next-gen console, the wait is almost over. Microsoft has confirmed that Project Helix will be front and centre at its Spring 2026 Game Dev Update, set for 7 May at 5 pm BST.

A new developer-focused show

The Game Dev Update is a new format from Microsoft designed to bridge the gap between Xbox’s internal teams and the developers building games on the platform. Think technical context, workflow updates, and hardware details, all in one place.

GM of portfolio and programs Chris Charla and VP of next generation Jason Ronald are headlining the session, and the two will offer a “closer look” at Project Helix following initial details shared at GDC back in March.

What we know so far about Project Helix

Project Helix is powered by a custom AMD SoC (System on a Chip) and has been described as “co-designed for the next generation of DirectX.” Microsoft says the system is built to help developers “optimise build workflows, improve performance, and iterate more efficiently”, which sounds promising, though it’s still early days.

Alpha versions of dev kits aren’t expected to reach developers until 2027, so there’s still a long runway before anything goes public.

That said, a proper showcase from the people actually building it should fill in some blanks. We’ll be watching on 7 May.
