Black Ops 1 & 2 are finally coming on PlayStation

Black Ops

Two of Call of Duty’s most beloved entries are finally escaping their original hardware. Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are getting ports for PlayStation 4 and 5 this July.

Confirmed by Treyarch, built by Iron Galaxy

The news came straight from the official Treyarch Call of Duty account, which confirmed on X that the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation in July, with Iron Galaxy handling the work behind the scenes.

Black Ops first launched in November 2010, with BO2 following two years later in 2012. Both are widely considered among the franchise’s strongest entries, and until now.

Worth being clear about what this actually is. These are ports, not remasters or remakes, so don’t expect a visual overhaul or modernised menus.

Online play is still a mystery

How Activision plans to handle server infrastructure and matchmaking for two games built on long-outdated networking setups is still unclear. Multiplayer was a huge part of both games’ legacies, so this detail matters more than it might seem.

More information should surface as July approaches, and we’ll update accordingly.
