Capcom teases Onimusha: Way of the Sword release date announcement

Capcom appears to be gearing up to announce a release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and the tease came from a rather unexpected source.

The game’s official X account was recently “hacked” by Diana, a central character from Capcom’s upcoming sci-fi title Pragmata. During the playful takeover, Diana shared a batch of new in-game screenshots showing off the game’s atmospheric environments, all while cracking jokes about downloading a Japanese language module. Classic Diana, apparently.

Diana found something, then got cut off

The stunt took a more interesting turn when Diana claimed to have discovered a release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword buried in her files. Before she could finish downloading the module needed to view it, her companion, Hugh, intervened and forced her to log off, leaving fans hanging at the worst possible moment.

It’s a clever bit of marketing, and it’s got the community buzzing. Set in 17th-century Kyoto and built around intense cinematic sword combat, Onimusha: Way of the Sword already had plenty of attention after a fresh trailer landed in March. Now, with a release date tease this deliberate, an official announcement seems imminent.

Whether Diana logs back in for one final reveal remains to be seen, but at this point, it’s more a question of when, not if.
