Stellar Blade fans weren’t expecting this. Blood Rain, the follow-up to Shift Up’s stylish action hit, made its debut at Summer Game Fest, and it’s not quite the continuation many had anticipated.
Meet Evie
Rather than picking up directly with Eve, Blood Rain introduces an entirely new protagonist named Evie. The extended gameplay trailer offered a first proper look at her in action, and while the face of the franchise has changed, the DNA is very much intact. Lightning-fast combat, a cinematic urban setting, and that signature flair are all present and accounted for.

Same studio, new story
The good news is that the original development team is back at the helm. Blood Rain is set to expand the Stellar Blade narrative while carving out its own distinct path, so there’s lore continuity for those invested in the world, even if the journey itself is entirely new.
Still early days
Worth tempering expectations slightly: the game is still in early development, with no release date or window confirmed just yet. What’s been shown is more of a promising glimpse than a full reveal.

Still, as Summer Game Fest announcements go, this one landed.
