Subnautica 2 early access roadmap detailed, Co-Op, new biomes, and more planned

Subnautica 2

Unknown Worlds hasn’t wasted any time. Just 24 hours after Subnautica 2 hit Early Access on 15 May, the studio has pulled back the curtain on what players can expect during the game’s ongoing development, and there’s quite a lot to look forward to.

No dates, no pressure

The roadmap comes with an important caveat: none of the updates carry firm release dates. That’s a deliberate choice. The team is clearly keen to avoid the trap of overpromising, and they’ve been upfront that the roadmap itself remains flexible, subject to change based on player feedback as the community settles in.

It’s a refreshingly honest approach.

What’s actually coming

Subnautica 2′s first update, version 1.1, zeroes in on quality-of-life improvements. Players can expect changes to the PDA Data Bank, Biomods System, and Blight Encounters, alongside tweaks to Vehicle Docking, Fabrication, and Wrecks Gameplay. Sprinting is also on the way, always a welcome addition.

Update 1.2 shifts focus to co-op, bringing voice chat, emotes, player trading, and a revive system. A base builder tool and pinned recipes system round out what looks like a genuinely meaningful multiplayer overhaul.

Further down the line, new regions, biomes, and creatures are planned, along with a fresh story chapter.

Subnautica 2 is still early in its journey, but Unknown Worlds appears to have a clear vision of where it’s headed.
