Velen has looked the same in every playthrough for over a decade. A modder named Deezyyyy wants to fix that. His new Witcher 3 seasons mod, The Living Continent, is live on Nexus Mods and works with The Witcher 3 Remastered.
The idea is simple. The year moves through spring, summer, autumn and winter, and the world changes with it. Trees turn colour and go bare one species at a time, whilst wildflowers pop up and die off across the meadows. You can tie the seasons to in-game days or to your own playtime, which is handy if you don’t fancy waiting for the weather to catch up.

Winter looks like the highlight
Snow piles up slowly and takes its time to melt. Fires clear patches around them, and Geralt leaves proper footprints that catch the light. Villagers get warmer clothes and spend their days clearing snow and keeping warm, which sounds like a small touch but makes a village feel lived in. I’d start a new save just to see that.
Then there’s the night sky. The mod places real stars where they actually sit, adds the Milky Way and northern lights, and even throws in meteor showers on their real dates. Nobody asked for astronomically correct stars in a fantasy RPG. I’m glad someone did it anyway.

You’ll need the DirectX 12 version of the game to run it. Ray tracing and path tracing both work. The author also says AI helped build the mod, with him guiding and testing it in the game himself. Fair enough. The results speak louder than the tools.
