We’ve finally got a date. God of War Laufey launches on PS5 on February 16, 2027, confirmed during San Diego Comic-Con 2026 with a release date trailer from the official PlayStation account.

The bigger news isn’t the date though. It’s who’s swinging the axe. Kratos isn’t the lead this time. Players will be controlling his wife instead, and after four games of watching him grumble his way through Norse mythology, that’s honestly the more exciting pitch.

Nine years in the making

God of War Laufey has been in the works for a long time. Jason Schreier reportedly flagged a February window a month back, and Sony Santa Monica confirmed the 2027 release shortly after. The game got its proper unveiling with a gameplay trailer at June’s State of Play. Lead actress Deborah Ann Woll has said the project was first pitched to her nearly ten years ago, back in 2018, the same year the PS4 God of War came out. Nine years is a long time to keep a secret like that.

There’s already a sequel lined up as well. Sony confirmed at Comic-Con that the next Kratos-led entry follows God of War Laufey and ties directly into her story. So this isn’t some side story nobody asked for, it’s a proper bridge to whatever comes next.

Wishlist’s open now. Mark the calendar.
