Sony reveals new PlayStation Pulse headsets with better sound

Sony has announced two new wireless gaming headsets for PlayStation players, bringing improved sound, updated designs, and better voice chat features to its PS5 audio lineup.

The new models are called the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset and Pulse Edge Wireless Headset. Both are designed to offer clearer game audio while making it easier for players to hear important sounds such as footsteps, gunfire, and reloads.

Sony says the new headsets build on the technology used in the Pulse Elite, which introduced planar magnetic drivers to its PlayStation wireless headset range.

PlayStation Pulse focuses on clear and detailed audio

The new PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset uses larger planar magnetic drivers designed to produce a fuller sound with deeper bass. Sony is also focusing on sound separation, which can help players identify where sounds are coming from during games.

This could be useful in competitive shooters, where small audio details can make a difference. Players should be able to hear directional sounds more clearly while still getting stronger bass for explosions and other effects.

Both new headsets support PlayStation Link, giving them a low-latency wireless connection with compatible devices. They can work with PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, and Mac.

The headsets can also stay connected to supported Bluetooth devices at the same time, giving users more flexibility when switching between gaming and other audio.

AI noise reduction improves voice chat

Sony has also upgraded the microphones on both models with AI-based noise rejection. The technology is designed to reduce unwanted background sounds and keep the player’s voice clearer during in-game chat.

The new design also includes rotating earcups, allowing the headsets to sit flat when being carried or stored. Sony says the updated design is built with comfort and durability in mind.

Both models will be offered in White and Midnight Black finishes.

Pulse Edge adds premium features

The Pulse Edge Wireless Headset is aimed at players who want additional audio features. It uses planar magnetic drivers with twice the magnet volume of the standard PlayStation Pulse headset, which Sony says helps produce deeper bass while keeping audio details clear.

Pulse Edge also includes active noise cancellation to reduce outside sounds. It comes with a detachable boom microphone for voice chat, while a built-in microphone can still be used when the boom mic is removed.

Sony is also including a carrying case with Pulse Edge, giving the more premium model additional protection when travelling.

PlayStation Pulse launch details

Sony plans to release the PlayStation Pulse Wireless Headset in select markets during the 2026 holiday season.

The Pulse Edge Wireless Headset is scheduled to arrive in early 2027. Sony has not yet announced pricing, exact release dates, or pre-order information for either headset.
