EA bosses pocket millions in bonuses just after layoffs

If you’ve been laid off from EA recently, you might want to look away now. The company’s CEO Andrew Wilson has just pocketed a bonus that would make most people’s heads spin, and he’s not the only one celebrating.

EA’s top bosses cash in

According to a new 10-K report covered by Eurogamer, Wilson’s total pay for the year came to $38,694,984 once you add up his stock awards and bonuses. That’s not pocket change by anyone’s standard, and it lands just weeks after they quietly let go of an unnamed number of staff in non-development roles across the US, in what was reportedly the third round of layoffs at the company recently.

Wilson wasn’t the only one having a good year on paper. CFO Stuart Canfield walked away with $11.3 million, President Laura Miele picked up $13.7 million, Chief People Officer Mala Singh got $8.3 million, and the Chief Legal Officer wasn’t far behind with $8.4 million.

So why the big payouts? EA says it’s all down to hitting targets. Battlefield 6 apparently launched smoothly and picked up good reviews, EA Sports FC hit its player retention and growth goals, Apex stuck to its plan, Skate smashed its early access player targets, EA Sports college football beat its sales goals, and The Sims got its user-generated content marketplace out the door.

Meeting targets is one thing. Doing it while cutting jobs elsewhere is a different look entirely, and one plenty of laid-off staff probably won’t find easy to swallow.
