Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has broken his silence on the Borderlands 4 Nintendo Switch 2 delay, confirming the pause is down to the team prioritising fixes for the game’s Steam version before expanding to new platforms.
Switch 2 port is on hold
The pause was first announced back in February, initially surfacing through Take-Two’s quarterly earnings report. At the time, a spokesperson called it a difficult decision, but Zelnick has now offered a clearer picture of what’s actually going on behind the scenes.
Speaking to Game File’s Stephen Totilo, the executive explained that 2K’s primary focus remains PlayStation and Xbox, though he stressed the company’s commitment to supporting whatever platform players choose. The hold-up, he clarified, comes down to the team working through technical issues on Steam.

“We’ve been addressing those challenges, and we want to make sure that we’ve fully addressed Borderlands 4 from a consumer’s point of view before we bring it to more platforms,” Zelnick said. He also confirmed that getting the game running on Switch 2 hardware is “doable,” offering some reassurance to Nintendo fans waiting on the port.
Borderlands 4 roadmap for 2026
Meanwhile, Gearbox has already mapped out a busy content schedule for the year. Photo Mode is currently live, with story updates, packs, and additional features planned throughout 2026. The full roadmap is available.

No revised Switch 2 launch window has been confirmed just yet.
