Destiny isn’t dead, Bungie confirms vaulted content is coming back

Destiny fans, breathe out. Bungie just confirmed the game isn’t getting left for dead after all.

In a new blog post and video, Bungie said Destiny 2‘s vaulted campaigns, destinations, and raids are coming back, and they’ll be free for everyone. This is Bungie’s direct response to the backlash that followed the game’s live-service end earlier this summer, and it’s the first real sign the studio is listening.

It’s not a quick fix lads

Bungie said it upfront that this isn’t just flipping old files back on. Lighting, encounters, combatants and other systems all need updating to meet current standards, so don’t expect vaulted content to reappear overnight.

What got me was the bigger message here, Bungie sees this restoration as step one, not the whole plan. The studio talked about “reforging” into new stories and games down the line, though there’s still no confirmation of Destiny 3. What Bungie is promising is a return to what made it click in the first place, the mystery, the discovery, and Guardians teaming up against the odds.

Bungie also reaffirmed its commitment to Marathon, with a PvE mode and other changes planned before the end of the year. Devs were clear that Marathon was never meant to replace Destiny.

Bringing back what players lost is the easy part to root for. We’ll see whether Bungie can actually rebuild trust after everything.
