CD Projekt Red has finally put a number on The Witcher 4, and it’s further out than most were hoping. The studio is now targeting 2028, and there’s no gameplay at Gamescom this year either.
Joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski confirmed the news in an X post and video, with Gamescom’s opening night instead spotlighting The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past. He called The Witcher 4 the studio’s “biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date,” with over 500 developers currently on it.
CD Projekt Red first flagged a launch “after 2026” over a year ago, so 2028 tracks as confirmation rather than a fresh delay, and Nowakowski stressed it’s a target, not a locked date. The game’s been in full production since late 2024, and the studio says it overhauled its dev process after Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch issues.

Nowakowski did confirm The Witcher 4 will appear at future Gamescom events, so a gameplay reveal at Gamescom 2027 or 2028 looks likely.
