Resident Evil Requiem had a Merchant, Seizure Mechanic, and more cut before launch

Resident Evil Requiem

Resident Evil Requiem has settled in well since launch, but a recent datamine suggests Capcom had a much bigger, and stranger, game in mind before the final cut.

What got left on the floor

Shared originally by dataminer umesooooo and amplified by the well-known Resident Evil leaker DuskGolem on X, the findings paint a picture of the Resident Evil Requiem that was once considerably more ambitious. Most eye-catching is the apparent inclusion of a Merchant-type character, complete with a full weapon customisation interface, a clear nod to Resident Evil 4 that didn’t survive to release. Alongside that, there was reportedly a sub-mission system not unlike RE4’s side quests.

Other scrapped mechanics include a blood collection kit that Leon could use as a self-administered enhancement drug. Accumulating enough blood would boost his stamina, critical hit rate, and weapon performance, essentially a risk-reward survival system that sounds fascinating in theory.

The Seizure Mechanic is the real talking point

Perhaps the most striking find is a screenshot labelled ‘Leon’s Seizure,’ tied to a cut Professional Difficulty mode. The implication is that on harder settings, Leon’s seizures would trigger more frequently as an additional threat, a mechanic that could’ve added real tension, though the potential accessibility concerns are obvious.

Other scrapped elements include a motorcycle repair tutorial, combustion ammo, switchable toxic rounds, and a map screen showing Leon and Grace simultaneously.

Whether any of this resurfaces as a Resident Evil Requiem DLC remains to be seen.
