Pearl Abyss has confirmed that Crimson Desert has surpassed five million copies sold worldwide, less than a month after its mid-March release, a remarkable commercial achievement for a game that received a somewhat mixed critical response.
A heartfelt Thank You from Pearl Abyss
The studio shared the milestone on social media, thanking players for their support and acknowledging every fan who had “joined us on this journey, experienced the world of Pywel, and supported the game.” It’s the kind of message that reads as genuinely grateful rather than corporate box-ticking, and the numbers back it up.

Not without its controversies
Crimson Desert’s reception has been anything but straightforward. The game currently sits at a 77 on Metacritic, classed as “Generally Favorable” with user scores tracking slightly above critic marks.
Much of the discourse since launch has centred on post-launch patches addressing fast travel, UI, input mapping, and difficulty balancing. The argument doing the rounds is a fair one: had those fixes shipped with the game, review scores would likely have looked very different.

Whether Crimson Desert can sustain momentum and silence critics pointing to a hollow story and an underdeveloped endgame remains to be seen. But five million in a month? Pearl Abyss will take that.
