Resident Evil 0 Remake reportedly rebooted with Capcom’s top team now leading

The Resident Evil 0 remake has reportedly been through a significant shakeup, with Capcom’s premier internal studio now at the helm following a mid-development restart.

Reputable leaker Dusk Golem shared on X that the project was overhauled partway through production. “It got rebooted mid-dev, and Capcom Div 1 is currently leading it post-reboot,” they wrote, responding to fan concerns about which team was originally attached.

Why Division 1 handling Resident Evil 0 remake development is a good thing

Capcom Division 1 is the company’s flagship studio, headed by Jun Takeuchi and structured across four departments. The division has been responsible for Resident Evil’s modern resurgence, leading every mainline entry since RE7 and building the RE Engine that has powered Capcom’s output since 2017.

Those concerns about the original team reportedly stemmed from RE 3 Remake’s reputation. The 2020 release was criticised not for poor quality but for its lack of content. Having Division 1 step in does, at least, address that particular worry.

The reboot does carry some uncertainty, though. Mid-development restarts tend to push timelines back considerably, and that applies regardless of how efficient the underlying technology is. RE Engine has allowed Capcom to work at remarkable pace in recent years, but starting over is starting over.

Meanwhile, Capcom confirmed Resident Evil Code: Veronica is also in development, announced during Summer Game Fest. Two major RE remakes are now on the horizon. Details on both remain thin for now.
